The Asian markets did not seem to be very excited about the fantastic rally on the Dow last Friday. Following other Asian markets our markets also opened with a gap up of 175 points but gave up the early gains very soon. The markets traded in a range throughout the day lacking support of the bulls at higher levels. The trading volumes also sharply declined by 27 percent in todays trade. Both the Sensex and Nifty closed 47 and 22 lower at 13994 and 4223 respectively. |
Among the sectoral indices the FMCG and Metal index were the only indices that ended in the green. Among the Sensex stocks ACC and Tata Steel were the highest gainers rallying about 3 % each on the other hand Satyam and JP Associates lost the most. The advance decline ratio was almost 1:1. |
